Install the Dictionaries

Prerequisites: If you do not want to use the default directory as specified by the AAA Server (C:\Program Files\ActivIdentity\AAA\Dico), then you must create an alternative directory in which to store the dictionaries.
Important: Remember the new directory path because you must enter it during the configuration of the AAA Server.
Note: Only perform the following steps if you want to use dictionaries other than those provided with the AAA Server.
  1. Locate the directory where the dictionaries are stored that came with your server.

This is usually a subfolder within the program files that was created during the installation of the server.

  2. Copy the required files to the dictionary directory for the AAA Server to configure.

By default, the AAA Server stores its dictionaries in the C:\Program Files\ActivIdentity\AAA\Dico directory.

Note: Store all dictionaries used by the AAA Server in this directory. If you want to use an alternative to the default directory, together with the AAA Server dictionaries, then copy the AAA Server dictionaries to the alternative location.

The AAA Server provides standard RADIUS and TACACS+ dictionaries that apply to all common configurations.

You can achieve full functionality from your Access Controller and Network Access Controller (NAS) by specifying the attributes used with AAA Server in order, such as:

    • Files with .rad extensions are RADIUS dictionaries.
    • Files with .tac extensions are TACACS+ dictionaries.
  3. You can edit these dictionaries using a common text editor (for example, Notepad or Wordpad).
  4. To preserve the original dictionary files (when you update a dictionary), save the default dictionary with a different name, and then update the new file.

For complete attribute lists and values, see the NAS vendor documentation.
