Deploying the Soft Token Solution
The ActivID® AAA Server Soft Token solution provides software token deployment services and works seamlessly with existing and new ActivID AAA Server for Remote Access deployments.
This solution enables business applications to authenticate users via software-based OATH (Initiative for Open Authentication) Tokens. Authentication is performed by generating time-based, event-based, variable length, one-time passwords.
ActivID AAA Server now supports user enrollment of the HID Approve Token as a replacement for the ActivID Soft Token solution. Read on for further information regarding this transition, and how it may impact customers upgrading to ActivID AAA Server 7.0.
The solution consists of three components:
- ActivID AAA Server Administration Console and Web Help Desk — enables administrators to assign tokens to users and to manage the complete token lifecycle (for example, assignment, synchronization, and un-assignment).
- ActivID AAA Server Web Self Help Desk — enables end users to replace their ActivID Soft Tokens with HID Approve Secure Tokens.
- ActivID Soft Token clients — applications developed to run on end-user devices, transforming user devices into a component of two-factor security. While ActivID Soft token clients can no longer be enrolled as of AAA Server 7.0, users can enroll HID Approve Secure Tokens on the HID Approve application.
Existing ActivID Soft Tokens can now only be unassigned or deleted, and new ActivID Soft Tokens cannot be enrolled. Users that already have an existing enrolled legacy ActivID Soft Token may continue to authenticate. However, it is strongly recommend for users to upgrade from ActivID Soft Token to HID Approve.
For more information on the legacy soft token solution, please refer to the ActivID AAA Soft Token Solution Guide for AAA 6.8 available from the HID Global Customer Portal.
