Activate SMS Backup

Prerequisites:
  • The user's cellular/mobile telephone is configured in their LDAP user profile.
  • The LDAP attribute for mobile phone must be defined in SMS gateway options.

If the user’s cellular telephone is configured in their LDAP user profile, you can activate the SMS backup authentication. The user then authenticates using this activation code and the AAA Server generates a one-time password and sends by SMS to the user’s telephone.

It is normal for the attempt to authenticate with the activation code to fail. The authentication attempt triggers another process on the AAA Server to generate the one-time password.

  1. Select the corresponding link for the user’s device in the Device ID column of the search results form.
  2. Select SMSBackup in the device data page.

    The SMS settings page opens:

  3. Enter and confirm a random code to activate the SMS Backup function in the Activation code field.

Note: The activation code can be random, chosen by the Help Desk Operator or chosen by the user. The user attempts to authenticate using this activation code. The attempt fails, but this instructs the AAA Server to send a one-time password to the user’s mobile phone by SMS. The user then can authenticate successfully with this password.
  4. In the Duration section, select the appropriate option (length of duration may vary from one connection to several days of access).
  5. Give the activation code to the user, specify its validity period, and click OK to apply the settings.

    • Yes is displayed in the SMS column.
    • Validity of the configured duration is calculated and the end date is displayed in the SMS Until column:

Important: All other authentication methods are unavailable until this temporary credential expires or is disabled by the Help Desk (or by the user himself, using the Web Self Help Desk).
