Upgrading ActivID ActivClient

The ActivClient setup allows you to upgrade seamlessly from previous versions starting with 7.4.1 or later (64-bit edition); it automatically detects the version installed and performs the upgrade. You do not need to uninstall the previous version.

Note: For versions preceding 7.4.1, it is necessary to perform an uninstallation followed by the installation of the latest version.
Important:

Due to the deprecation of Visual Basic Script (VBScript) starting with Windows 11, version 24H2, upgrading ActivID ActivClient 7.4.1 or 7.4.3 to a higher version on this and later Windows versions may encounter issues. To avoid problems with upgrading ActivClient caused by the VBScript deprecation, we recommend to uninstall the old version before upgrading to ActivClient 8.4. For more details, refer to Troubleshooting Uninstallation of Older ActivClient Versions After Deprecation of Visual Basic Script.

Prerequisites:
  • The ActivClient installation Prerequisites are met.

  • A previous version of ActivClient is already installed (refer to the list of supported upgrades).

  • Remove any smart card or key from the smart card reader.

Upgrading Methods

You can upgrade ActivClient using one of the following methods, depending on how the product was initially installed:

  • Interactive Setup with the ActivClient MSI Installer

If you installed ActivClient using the MSI installer, you can upgrade the product using the same method. For more details, refer to Install ActivID ActivClient.

Note:

If you customized the previous ActivClient 7.4.1 or later version (64-bit edition) by specifying which components to install, the upgrade process will upgrade these components automatically.

Any new features in the latest version of ActivClient, which were not included in your previous version, will be installed based on the Typical setup configuration. For more details about the new features, refer to What's New in ActivID ActivClient 8.4.
