Configuring Oracle Databases for Use with ActivID CMS

This section explains how to configure Oracle® databases for use with ActivID CMS. This information is intended for System Administrators and Database Administrators who are responsible for installing, maintaining, and upgrading the Oracle database used with ActivID CMS.

If you install ActivID CMS on a brand new Oracle database, then refer to Installing ActivID CMS. For information on which Oracle databases are compatible with the current version of ActivID CMS, refer to ActivID CMS System Environment.

If you intend to upgrade an existing ActivID CMS deployment to a more recent version of Oracle, then follow the instructions provided in this section.

To migrate existing ActivID CMS data and upgrade from an earlier Oracle database, you must:

  • Migrate the data currently stored in the Oracle database to the new Oracle database.

  • Reconnect ActivID CMS to the new Oracle database.

Important: When you upgrade the database, it is highly recommended that you follow the steps described in this section – which is the preferred method for migration, as opposed to direct database upgrade. This is the preferred method for the following reasons:
  • You will have a backup database that is not impacted by the upgrade process.

  • You will have two databases on separate systems.
