About the PIV Toolkit

The PIV Toolkit contains a set of plug-ins, device profiles, database extensions, and configuration files that are installed on top of ActivID CMS. When used, the PIV Toolkit modifies the structure and behavior of the existing ActivID CMS application. However, even after configuration of the PIV Toolkit, ActivID CMS can still perform all the non-PIV Personal Identity Verification (technical standard of "HSPD-12") functions it could before.

Specifically, the PIV Toolkit contains:

  • PIV Enrollment/Digital Signatory Plug-In – For formatting and signing of user data sent to the card (for example, CHUID Card Holder Unique Identifier, fingerprint, or facial image).

  • Biometric Verification Plug-In – For fingerprint verification of users during PIV card activation.

  • Static Data Plug-In – Used internally in ActivID CMS to personalize user data (CHUID and demographic data) on the PIV card.

  • Notification Plug-In – Sends notification messages upon card issuance and activation.

  • PIV card profiles – Used to create device policies for PIV-compliant card issuance.

  • PIV Metadata database creation scripts – Required for ActivID CMS to store additional PIV data.

  • Additional tools – For testing of the PIV configuration, such as a sample Card Production Request (CPR).
