Managing Device Profiles
The Device Initialization Tool is delivered with externally signed files (default profiles) that it uses during device initialization to set parameters for user authentication ActivID Event-Based is a proprietary Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) algorithm with the event or counter as a variable. purposes.
-
A profile is a list of parameters that determines user authentication and device policies including policies on PIN The Personal Identification Number (PIN) code used to access a device’s services. Devices can only be used after a correct PIN is entered.s, unlocking PINs, and methods of authentication.
-
The Device Initialization Tool includes default profiles to be used as templates by the end user.
-
To initialize a device of any kind, the authentication profile must be signed before, otherwise the Device Initialization Tool cannot use it.
After any modification of the profile it must be signed again.
-
You can sign your own profiles, but you should be very careful when you do this. The default Device Initialization Tool profiles are signed with a proprietary, Device Initialization Tool Triple DES secret embedded in the product.
The Device Initialization Tool provides this signature service to ensure data integrity. HID Global cannot ensure the reliability of profiles that you create after receiving the Device Initialization Tool.
-
You can create a new profile – externally to the Device Initialization Console – and sign it using a menu option in the Initialization Console before device initialization.
-
You can also assign (dedicate) this profile to a specific Device Manager when restricting his/her rights (see Managing Console Users).
