Register or Unregister the CAPI Plugin

The Windows Integration pane of the General tab provides a visual indication of whether the CAPI plugin is currently registered with Windows and lets you register or unregister the plugin. When the plugin is registered with Windows, all applications that make use of CAPI for certificate revocation status checking automatically make use of the plugin to perform these operations.

Unregistering the CAPI plugin limits interaction of the Validation Client with Windows or third-party applications. When the CAPI plugin is not registered, the only validation requests that will be serviced by the Validation Client are those that specifically make use of the Validation Client application programming interface (API), such as the Validation Test Tool. Applications that rely on Microsoft CAPI will have no interaction with the Validation Client.

Click the button to change the registration state of the CAPI Plugin. The button changes between Register CAPI Plugin and Unregister CAPI Plugin depending on the current registration state. This setting takes effect immediately and does not require that you click OK. Because of the way CAPI manages plugins, some running applications may continue to make use of the CAPI plugin until they are closed and restarted.
