Important: Security Considerations for Crescendo 4000 Series Smart Cards and Keys

For each new or recycled Crescendo 4000 Card and Crescendo Key V3, it is strongly recommended, for security reasons, to change the factory-default management key.

Important: Force PIN Change Limitations

For enhanced security, new or recycled Crescendo 4000 Card and Crescendo Key V3 devices with the Force PIN Change setting enabled cannot be used until the initial PIN has been changed. In particular, users will not be able to log on to Windows using such a device. The user must first log on using alternative credentials (or a different account) and change the PIN using Crescendo Manager before the device becomes usable.

Older devices that do not enforce this setting can still be used for Windows logon and other operations. However, when Crescendo Manager is started, the user is required to change the PIN before any card operations can be performed.
