Customizing Policy Settings With the Microsoft Windows Local Computer Policy Editor

If your workstations are not managed centrally, you can customize ActivClient policies using the Windows Local Computer Policy editor.

The ClosedActivClient Administrative Template files are installed with the Configuration Management component during ActivClient setup. They are then copied to the standard C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\ folder.

To customize HID ActivClient using Local Computer Policy Editor:

  1. Start the Microsoft Management Console (mmc.exe) and, from the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.

  1. Add the Group Policy Object Editor snap-in, select Local Computer, and click OK.

  2. Under Computer Configuration, go to Administrative Templates, and then HID Global.

  3. View and edit the ActivClient product settings (ActivClient and Logging).

  1. For settings that do not require a specific value (such as timeouts), you can set the status with the following options:

Status Effect
Not Configured When set to Not Configured and applied, the setting is considered disabled, and any previously configured values are cleared from the policy.

If you later set the policy to Enabled, new values must be entered.

Enabled When set to Enabled and applied, the values you enter are stored in the policy.

If the default value is used, no specific value is stored.

Disabled When set to Disabled and applied, the setting is inactive. However, any previously entered values remain in the policy and will be used if the setting is later re-enabled.
Note: The Enabled behavior is the opposite of the default behavior (that is, Not Configured).
  1. You can also view and edit the relevant Microsoft settings.

Note: All ActivClient settings are available for configuration and/or update; even settings related to features that have not been installed on the local computer. However, if settings related to non-installed features are modified, these changes are not taken into account.
