Logging On to Microsoft Windows

This section explains how to log on to Microsoft Windows 10 using a digital certificate stored on your HID Crescendo device.

Prerequisites:

  • Your Microsoft Windows computer or device is joined to a domain.

  • Your device contains a digital certificate for Windows authentication to the domain.

  1. Start your workstation.
  2. Insert your HID Crescendo contact card (chip-side up and chip first) into the smart card reader, or place your HID Crescendo contactless card on a contactless smart card reader, or plug the HID Crescendo Key into a USB port and wait for a steady or flashing Green light.
    A Log On window relevant to your operating system is displayed.
  3. If multiple smart card certificates that are compatible with Microsoft Windows logon are displayed, select the one you want to use.
  4. Enter your PIN in the PIN field and click OK, or wait for the HID Crescendo Key light to flash Orange and press the button once.
    After a few moments, you are logged on and your desktop is displayed.

You can also log off or lock the workstation when you remove the smart card, securing the workstation when you are not at your desk.
